Commercial Growers & Flower Nurseries

Commercial Growers & Flower Nurseries

We are very proud of the farms we supply, helping them grow their produce for their market gardens, restaurants, homesteads, veg boxes, farm shops, pick your own, pumpkin farms, herb farms and flower nurseries.

Saving costs and removing plastic

Weeds compete with crops for moisture, nutrients, light and space. Eliminating them can be costly and labour intensive. Many farms we work with are very loyal and use the mulch seasonally to manage their large flat beds, saving their businesses time that was previously spent on weeding. This keeps costs down and provides bountiful yields with the knowledge that no plastic has been used in the vegetable, herb, fruit or flower chain.

We have converted many farms from using plastic sheeting on the soil. Commercial growers around the UK and in Europe use the paper mulches we provide but for larger growers, it's mainly the Lightweight Cornstarch film that's used to grow their crops. Both can be applied by hand or machine laid.

What’s more, neither black plastic nor chemical sprays offer environmentally sound solutions to the problem. Paper mulch or cornstarch films offer an effective and environmentally sound alternative. No matter what you grow, or what size area you farm, there’s a Mulch Organic product for you.

You can completely eliminate the removal and disposal costs associated with black plastic. If it's not covered already, you can till the paper mulch into soil at the end of the season. It will add valuable organic matter back into the soil as it decomposes. Likewise, you can also eliminate the staffing costs of weeding by hand.

Finally, unlike black plastic, which requires drip irrigation, porous mulch organic lets you take advantage of natural rainwater, for even greater savings. Overhead watering and drip irrigation are also options that work perfectly. The paper mulch is specifically formulated to maintain its integrity even when wet, slowly degrading over the course of the growing season.

Crops planted with paper mulches or cornstarch film get off to a healthy start without competition from weeds. Early in the season, the material warms the soil, helping plants establish faster. As the season progresses, porous paper and film lets air circulate, promoting healthy roots, instead of “cooking” them like black plastic.

Whether you grow in open fields or high polytunnels, have a 1 acre farm or 100 acres, the mulch we supply has been tried and tested for almost two decades. The rolls come in a choice of widths and lengths. Some homesteads roll out the film by hand and some farms use machines. You can see our Commercial Farm manual for more machinery tips.
