About us

Mulch Organic is a family run business supplying biodegradable paper mulch and cornstarch films. We are a small independent business that have a keen interest in gardening and growing, mainly down at our allotment. We like supplying paper mulch because it provides an alternative to using plastic ground sheets to stop weeds or to prepare beds.

Plastic sheeting is commonly used because it's cheap and can be an effective weed barrier but growers should factor in that plastic can reduce soil health, contaminate the soil with microplastics, create uneven moisture as well as overheating and stressing out the roots of your plants.

The paper mulch we supply is innovative because it has been designed to let air and water penetrate whilst also being 100% opaque. It's popular with vegetable and flower growers because it's seasonal, it will completely biodegrade at the end of the season, it is fine to be in the soil, adding organic humus, enriching the soil, conserving water and moderating temperature whilst creating more lively, microbial activity.

So even though it's completely opaque so it can block light to stop weeds from growing, it also lets the soil breath and lets water soak in, creating the perfect microclimate and protection to give your plants a stronger, healthier start.

When we started the company almost two decades ago, we only supplied paper mulch which includes EcoMulch, this is certified organic by OMRI so we called ourselves Mulch Organic.

As time passed we had many requests from market gardeners and commercial growers to supply agricultural films too. The cornstarch films we provide are not certified organic but are certified GMO free, made from corn and renewable sources that comply with all European biodegradation standards.

Both the paper rolls and cornstarch film rolls we provide offer a better alternative to using black plastic and help reduce costs by improving yields, conserving moisture in the soil, keeping the soil's temperature consistent and creating strong growth - especially at that all important establishment phase. Perfect for fruit, flower and vegetable growing, landscaping and lawn restoration.

Mulch is good to use simply to save time, eliminating the need for lots of weeding and for creating a new raised bed, path, hedgerow, orchard or permaculture project. Both the paper and cornstarch films work well with poly tunnels, greenhouses and irrigation systems and for covering raised beds over winter.

Our customers range from allotment owners, flower nurseries, homesteads, market gardeners, landscapers, home growers, campsites, orchards, eco orientated construction companies and large agricultural farms.
