All Cornstarch Films

All Cornstarch Films

When we started the company in 2008, we only sold organic paper mulch, hence the name "Mulch Organic". After a couple of years, we began to have requests from market gardeners and commercial growers to supply agricultural films too. The cornstarch films we provide are not certified organic but are certified GMO free, made from corn and renewable sources that comply with all European biodegradation standards.

They are better alternatives to using black plastic and we have converted many large farms. There's clean up costs involved with using plastic not to mention mircoplastics breaking down into the soil, or cooking your crops due to plastic not being breathable.

The lightweight cornstarch looks a lot like black plastic but it isn't. Both this and the heavyweight film are biodegradable, offering seasonal or longer lasting protection, depending on your projects needs.

Lightweight Cornstarch
Popular with market gardens, homesteads, flower nurseries and anyone growing on a larger scale. This film is thin but sturdy when stretched when made taut. It's very easy to pierce with a dibber to transplant into. Can be hand applied or machine laid. It's hard to give an exact time when the film will begin to break down, as this depends on variables like moisture, weather and how lively the soil is. As a rough guide, we say it lasts no less than 4-6 months and lasts no more than 9-12 months. Although it's mainly used for vegetable, fruit and flower growing, some customers have also used only as a weed blocker, for certain landscaping projects like establishing beds etc..

Heavyweight Cornstarch
This is the go to product for those who don't want to use plastic, need something to last for a very long time - but not forever! This natural and long lasting alternative is made from cornstarch that is more like a fabric. It will last much longer than regular landscaping material yet will still biodegrade into the soil, adding humus for microbe activity.

100gsm cornstarch it is ideal for use where longer periods of protection are required. Ideal for suppressing stubborn weeds, establishing trees, shrubs, hedgerows, verges, vineyards, orchards, not to mention - landscaping! It will take at least 36 months to even begin breaking down but is absolutely fine for the soil.
