I think you all know Huw Richards @huwsgarden we keep his book "Veg in One Bed" in our allotment shed for helpful reference and his YouTube channel is one of the best.
In a recent video, he addresses the benefits of mulch, especially for the dry summer days when trying to retain moisture as best as possible.
Huw's amazing garden has all these little nooks, with so many crops growing in small areas. He uses a variety of different mulches, this isn’t an official collab or anything but very pleased to see he has laid the Paper Mulch inside his netted fruit cage to stop weeds, whilst cutting holes in the paper to transplant strawberries - perfect!
With a lack of rainfall, the paper mulch conserves moisture in the soil, benefitting plants in Summer and dry spells.
It’s given me a bit more peace of mind for when I can’t get down the plot to water
